Pretty Good Ride So Far

Got my back against the wall and my hands in my pockets
You slander and berate me your eyes burning in their sockets
I won’t amount to nothing got no drive and no ambition
You knew it all along you call it womens’ intuition
You tell me that I’m lazy and I watch too much TV
And all my friends are crazy and they’re no better than me
As your tirade wanes and you breathe a heavy sigh
You eye me with disdain as you wait for my reply
It’s been a pretty good ride so far
I never promised I’d be a star
I’m kind of glad that I came this far
It’s been a pretty good ride so far

I help you pack your bags and I walk you to your car
I even cry a little cause I know you’ll go real far
We promise to be friends and we swear to have no malice
I plan to find some comfort with that red haired chick named Alice
As the sun goes down bleeding into the horizon
You’re seething and you’re spitting and it’s me that you’re despising
Because I won’t amount to nothing least nothing that isn’t me
And here in my defense I put forth this mournful plea
It’s been a pretty good ride so far
I never promised I’d be a star
I’m kind of glad that I came this far
It’s been a pretty good ride so far
